So let’s begin with the problems. When I first received my Defender, the short version is it was too tight. After taking it apart the first time to see how it worked, it was almost impossible to get back together. The slide felt like it was dragging on the frame. After some lubrication, the pistol went back together, then the slide promptly locked closed. At this point I almost shipped the gun to Colt, but after some “tactical force application,” I was able to free the slide. I locked the gun open, drowned it in oil, and worked the action for an hour. Seeming to have fixed the problem, with much trepidation I went to the range. Now for the weird part. This Defender has functioned flawlessly. I’m up to 500 rounds in two sessions without a single failure of any sort. Hornady, Remington Golden Sabers, Blazer and Blazer Brass, American Eagle, you name it, the Colt eats it. My best group was 2 inches at 20 feet, seven rounds of the Golden Sabers 230 grain unsupported. It’s running dirty right now, because I bought this gun to be my carry pistol, so reliability is the number one concern. It hits dead on at a 12:00 hold. The trigger has a clean break at sound 5 pounds (I am only guessing), the slide safety is positive and easy to work, and the recoil is about the same as a standard 5 inch 1911 (read: not much). This thing is really a joy on the range. One other thing to note is that of the two magazines from Colt, both feed flawlessly but one of them will not drop free with the slide back, for reasons unknown. My two 7 round Wilson Combat mags do not have this issue. Overall, after my initial extreme disappointment, this pistol has come back into my good graces, and has now become the good shooting, reliable, comfortable pistol I wanted. A few more sessions, and it will become my new hip accessory.

My Colt Defender is what a carry pistol should be. It has perfect balance and carries nicely on the hip. Even though it is light weight, It holds closely to the target upon recoil and is very accurate out to my normal carry practice distance of 25 feet. It is a pure delight to shoot. Recommend this firearm to anyone who wants a perfect carry sidearm.

I absolutely love this gun. The only issue was that it only came with one mag, but the description said it should have came with 2 mags. I contacted firearmssuppliers, they in turn contacted Colt. Colt sent me 2 new mags within just a few days. I was disappointed because they should have been factory SS mags, but one was factory blue, and the other was a shooting star SS mag would have been happier with one factory SS mag. Not firearmssuppliers fault. They did call Colt to get the replacements for me. Thanks firearmssuppliers.com great job

I purchased the colt Defender from firearmssuppliers.com and received it in the normal timely fashion. It looked great so I decided to clean it before shooting and oil it properly. So I had problems getting the recoil spring assembly to align to insert the slide stop pin. Like a rookie I scratched my gun before I even fired it. Being disgusted I replaced the recoil spring with a better designed aftermarket model that lined up easily. I plan to carry it in my pocket so scratches are going to come. I have a delta elite and other colts and the quality of the recoil spring assembly is not up to their previous standards. It’s not the fault of firearmssuppliers fault but colts design of the spring along with an old man with shaky hands. Good luck avoiding the virus.
